Brief History:

The National Association of RSVP Directors, Inc. (NARSVPD) was created in 1976 in Chicago, Illinois, at a meeting of interested RSVP Directors from across the country. Officers were elected and were charged with developing by-laws and operating practices. The organization was incorporated in the state of Indiana with a 501(c)(3) status.

Purpose:

The purpose of NARSVPD, Inc., is to provide visibility and advocacy for RSVP; a network of communications among RSVP Directors and projects; a vehicle for expression of majority opinion on behalf of RSVP and older Americans to the Corporation for National and Community Service, Congress and other appropriate governmental and national units.
The fall meeting is held in Washington, D. C., and the spring meeting is held in conjunction with the annual meeting and usually joined with a cluster meeting.

Structure:

Professional membership is open to all RSVP Directors. Professional members have voting privileges. Associate membership is available to other project staff, sponsors and other interested persons or groups with no voting privileges.

NARSVPD, Inc., is operated through a Board of Directors, which is composed of nationally elected officers (President, Past President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer) with Delegates and Alternates elected from five Clusters. Professional membership makes eligibility to the Board possible.

The Board of Directors meets twice a year. The fall meeting is held in Washington, D.C., and the spring meeting is held in conjunction with the annual meeting.

NARSVPD, Inc., provides for enhancement of professional development of RSVP Directors through workshops and training programs with technical assistance. Resource development is through networking with both private sector and public agencies. Advocacy is provided by the Board of Directors as well as a contracted Washington Representative.

The NARSVPD, Inc., is open to communication of ideas and issues relevant to RSVP and its directors. The Board strives to represent RSVP Directors and to speak on their behalf before national government bodies. The Board works to improve project management through the development of grant opportunities, public/private partnerships, surveys and databases.

NARSVPD, Inc., provides annual award opportunities to exemplary and outstanding supporters of RSVP that are awarded at the annual meeting.

NARSVPD, Inc., supports projects with recognition items.

NARSVPD, Inc., addresses national issues in the area of volunteerism and aging.
NARSVPD, Inc., advocates and continues to work for increased program funding, cost of living increases and program development.

NARSVPD, Inc., supports the Corporation for National Service and its mission.

How to Budget for your National Association Dues?... Budget your dues as a line item in the non-federal column. Or pay dues out-of-pocket and if you itemize your taxes, list NARSVPD as a professional membership. NARSVPD, Inc., has a 501(c)(3) status. Annual dues for Professional Membership are $100.00, Associate Membership $50.00 and Organizational Membership $125.00., payable July 1st and delinquent November 1st. Dues must be paid by November 1st to run for national office.
